The best app to learn English for Spanish speakers in 2026
Updated:
We make Typeflu, so weigh this accordingly. We checked prices and features on 2 October 2026, and we say plainly when another app is the better choice.
If Spanish is your first language and you want to learn English, you are in luck: almost every big language app has a course for you, with the interface in Spanish. The hard part is choosing. Some apps are best for building a daily habit, some for grammar, some for speaking and some for training your ear. We ranked seven options by how well they serve a Spanish speaker starting or rebuilding their English, and we put our own app, Typeflu, where it honestly belongs: lower down, as a free listening add-on, because our English course for Spanish speakers is still a single A1 course.
The picks
-
1 Duolingo
- Best for
- A free daily habit from zero to intermediate
- Price
- Free (with ads and an energy limit). Super from about $84 a year in the US, prices vary by country
- How you practise
- Short game-like lessons: tapping, typing, listening and speaking
English for Spanish speakers is the largest course on Duolingo, and it shows: the course is long, polished and free. Every lesson is open without paying; the energy system limits how many lessons you do in a row, not which content you can reach. Streaks, leagues and reminders are the best in the business at getting you to open the app every day, and Duolingo says its English course now reaches about B2. It also runs the Duolingo English Test, a $70 online exam accepted by thousands of universities. The weak spots: lessons are short sentences rather than long listening, grammar explanations are thin unless you pay for Max, and many people keep a long streak without being able to hold a conversation. Use it as your base and add something for listening or speaking.Visit site: Duolingo ↗ -
2 Babbel
- Best for
- Adults who want grammar explained clearly in Spanish
- Price
- First lesson free. Paid plans from about $9 to $13 a month in the US on the web, prices vary by country and store
- How you practise
- 10 to 15 minute structured lessons with review and speech recognition
Babbel feels like a well-planned course book in app form. The interface is in Spanish, lessons build on each other, and grammar is explained instead of guessed, which suits adults who want to know why. You can choose American or British English, and Babbel Speak adds AI conversation practice. Courses are mapped to CEFR levels up to about C1 depending on the language. The downside is price: only the first lesson is free, and reviews often mention surprise renewals, so set a reminder before your plan ends. Babbel Live classes with teachers exist, but not for English at the time of writing. Babbel is the better choice than Duolingo if you have tried gamified apps and want a clear, adult structure.Visit site: Babbel ↗ -
3 Language Transfer
- Best for
- Understanding how English works, on a zero budget
- Price
- Free, funded by donations, no ads, no sign-up
- How you practise
- Audio lessons: a teacher guides a student to build sentences step by step
«Inglés para hispanohablantes completo» is a full audio course built for Spanish speakers. You listen as a teacher guides a learner to build English sentences by thinking, not memorising, and you pause to answer yourself. It is completely free, and you can download the tracks in the app to listen offline. It is not a complete solution: there is little vocabulary, little native-speed listening and only one voice, so pair it with an app that gives you real audio. If money is tight, Language Transfer plus a free app beats any paid app used half-heartedly.Visit site: Language Transfer ↗ -
4 Speak
- Best for
- Speaking out loud from day one
- Price
- About $17.99 a month or $83.99 a year in the US; in Mexico about MXN 199 a month or MXN 999 a year
- How you practise
- An AI tutor: you repeat, answer and role-play out loud
Speak launched its English course in Mexico and Latin America and is built around one idea: you speak much more than in other apps. You repeat phrases, answer questions and hold free conversations with an AI tutor that responds to what you say. If your problem is freezing when you have to talk, Speak is the better choice than everything else on this list. It is light on reading, writing and long listening, and it is one of the more expensive options, so many learners use it for a few months to unlock speaking and then move on. It is available on iOS and Android.Visit site: Speak ↗ -
5 Busuu
- Best for
- Feedback from native speakers and a certificate
- Price
- Free tier. Premium from roughly $70 a year in the US, varies by platform and country, check their site
- How you practise
- Structured lessons plus written and spoken exercises corrected by the community
Busuu has a Spanish interface and an English course from A1 to C1. Its standout feature is the community: native English speakers correct your written and spoken answers, which no other app here offers. Premium adds grammar review, offline lessons and certificates with McGraw Hill tests, and Premium Plus adds AI conversations and pronunciation feedback. The catch: community corrections can take hours or days, the free tier is thin, and some users report billing and refund trouble. Pick Busuu if you want real people to check your writing and a certificate to show for it.Visit site: Busuu ↗ -
6 Typeflu Made by us
- Best for
- Training your ear and spelling with dictation, as an add-on
- Price
- Free (first lesson of every unit). Pro €7.50 a month or €49 a year in Europe, local prices elsewhere, half price in much of Latin America
- How you practise
- Listen to a real sentence, type it word by word, fix mistakes letter by letter
Typeflu is a dictation app: you hear a full sentence in a natural voice, type it, and see exactly which letters you got wrong. Each word shows its IPA, its meaning in Spanish and its grammar role, and one tap explains your mistake in Spanish. Mistakes are tagged by patterns that are typical for Spanish speakers, such as dropped -ed endings and false friends, and Weak Spots lessons target them. Spaced review uses the FSRS memory model, and you can import your own text or a link to turn it into a lesson with audio. Now the honest part: our English course for Spanish speakers is one A1 basics course. There is no speaking practice, no tutors, no certificate, and it is a web app you install from the browser, not a store app. It is typing-heavy, so it is not for hands-free commuting. Use it alongside Duolingo or Babbel for ten minutes of focused listening, not instead of them.Try Typeflu free -
7 Daily Dictation
- Best for
- Free dictation practice once you are past the basics
- Price
- Free website. iOS app free with ads, PRO lifetime $19.99
- How you practise
- Classic dictation of short stories, conversations and video clips
Daily Dictation is a simple, free English dictation site with more than 1,000 exercises, including clips from YouTube videos and sections for IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC listening. It has far more content than Typeflu today. The interface is English only and there is no explanation in Spanish, no grammar course and no review system, so it works best from about A2 or B1, when you can follow instructions in English. If you already understand basic English and want lots of free dictation, Daily Dictation is the better choice than Typeflu.Visit site: Daily Dictation ↗

How we chose
We looked for apps a Spanish speaker can actually use, then ranked them on five things:
- Spanish support: an interface or explanations in Spanish, which matters most at A1 and A2.
- Depth: how far the English content goes and whether it follows a clear path.
- The four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, and which ones each app trains well.
- Price: what you can do for free, and what the paid plan costs as checked on 2 October 2026.
- Honesty about limits: including ours. A thin course ranks lower, whoever makes it.
We did not rank on ratings or user counts alone. A huge app that never makes you listen to a full sentence can still leave you lost in a real conversation.
Which one should you pick?
- Starting from zero, no budget: Duolingo every day plus Language Transfer on your commute.
- You want to understand the grammar: Babbel, or Language Transfer if you cannot pay.
- You understand but freeze when you speak: Speak.
- You want corrections from real people or a certificate: Busuu.
- You understand written English but not spoken English: add dictation. Typeflu if you want help in Spanish at A1, Daily Dictation if you are past the basics.
Other apps worth a look
Cake (free with ads) teaches natural expressions from short clips of films and videos, with a Spanish interface. It is fun but not a structured course. ELSA Speak scores your pronunciation sound by sound and has a Spanish interface; it is the better pick if your accent, not your vocabulary, is the problem. Prices for both vary a lot by country, so check their sites.
Who should skip Typeflu
Skip Typeflu for now if you want one app that takes you from zero to B2, if you mainly need to speak, or if you want a certificate. Our English catalog for Spanish speakers is one A1 course, and we would rather tell you that than have you find out after paying. If you want to see how dictation feels, our free guide Dictado en inglés explains the method, and the A1 course is free to try.
We checked every price and feature on this page on October 2, 2026. Prices change and can differ by country, so confirm on each app's own site before you pay.
Questions
What is the best free app to learn English for Spanish speakers?
Duolingo, because every lesson is free and its English course for Spanish speakers is its largest. Language Transfer is the best free audio course, and Daily Dictation is a free source of dictation once you know the basics.
Is Duolingo or Babbel better for learning English?
Duolingo is better if you want free lessons and a daily habit. Babbel is better if you want grammar explained in Spanish and a structured course, and you are happy to pay. Many learners use Duolingo first and switch when they want more structure.
Which app is best for speaking English?
Speak is built around speaking with an AI tutor. Busuu Premium Plus and Babbel Speak also add AI conversation. Typeflu has no speaking practice.
Is Typeflu good for Spanish speakers?
It is useful for training your ear and spelling, with explanations in Spanish and coaching for typical Spanish-speaker mistakes. But today it has only one A1 English course for Spanish speakers, so use it next to a main course, not instead of one.
Can I learn English with an app alone?
You can reach a solid intermediate level, especially if you combine an app with real listening. To speak fluently you also need to talk with people, whether a tutor, a class or friends.
